Hello, my name is Bailey and I am a PhD candidate at the University of Toronto in Ontario. I have been using your data in my thesis work and in writing up a paper. I have two questions related to HydroBASINS I was hoping you could clarify for me to make sure I use it correctly. Specifically, I am using HydroBASINS to get information on elevation and distance of watersheds within Ontario to understand how fish migrated to lakes across the province. My questions are:
- What is the difference between the variables Dist_main and Dist_sink?
- For a lake in Ontario, what is assumed to be the first/most downstream outlet, and how is it defined?
- If I want to get a distance from one lake in Ontario (or the smallest watershed that that lake occupies) to its outlet at a Great Lake, for example, rather than all the way to the ocean (which is what Dist_main seems to calculate), how would I do that using HydroBASINS data?
I have put thought into these questions but wanted to ask you directly. Thank you for any assistance you can provide!
