Authorization to use HydroSHEDS products

Hello. My name is Herberth Villavicencio. I work for the Water Directorate of the Ministry of Environment and Energy in Costa Rica.

We are interested in generating an official map of hydrographic basins in Costa Rica, for which it seems to us that the HydroSHEDS product meets the necessary quality controls to use this cartography as a base for the map.

Is it necessary to manage an endorsement or permission to use this cartography? With which authority or authorities should the respective procedures be coordinated for the corresponding permits? Or is it simply required to cite the sources of information on the map?

Dear Herberth,

thank you for your request. In regards to your question about the use of HydroSHEDS as official cartography: no special endorsement or permits are needed to use the data in the manner you suggest. However, please note the liability clause in the current license. Among other clauses, it states that the data comes as is, without any warranty of quality. For government applications, we recommend that you do your own validation and corrections, as needed.
